Welcome to Murdoch, New Jersey, a town with too little residents and too many secrets. Oliver Kingston is a seventeen year old with no ambitions and a poverty-stricken mother/life. One day while rushing off to his first day of senior year, Oliver learns his mother has gone missing. After eventually returning home, Oliver also discovers the apartment complex is swarming with police and crime scene investigators. Ultimately, Oliver learns their landlord, Dylan Ross, has been murdered. Now in an quest to discover the truth Oliver, alongside the Murdoch Police Department, must find out what truly happened the day of the murder. Additionally, Oliver must put his life on his hold to investigate his mother’s strange disappearance.

Warren Fischer has just been assigned the Manhattan View murder case. In his twenty two years of working with the police, he hasn't worked on a case as puzzling as this one. He's one year away from retiring and takes no bullshit from anyone.

Oliver Kingston has made it his mission to discover who murdered the father he never had. Upon learning Dylan had been murdered, no words could be released from his lips. On top of learning that his father figured had been murdered, Oliver also had to deal with the disappearance of his mother. Now with no one else left, he must live for himself and find alternate ways to survive. Above all, Oliver must also go finish off his last year of high school and maintain a job at the local Grindhouse Cafe.

Much like Oliver, she too must finish off her last two years of high school.

When Fischer was given the option of designating his partner for the murder case, Phillip Meyers was his first choice. In other cases prior to Dylan's, they had formed a tight bond like a rat and an ananconda. Phillip is also the father of Alice at thirty two years old.

The blonde-haired fifteen year old has always felt left out. From the time her parents chose to favor her younger sister, to the many difficult times she's had to endure on her own. Life has never been easy for Dakota, but luckily she has someone at the complex to comfort her. Fortunate for her, that one person always gets her through it all. Although Dakota harbors a darker, deeper secret, she is as much of a suspect to Dylan's murder as anyone else. Her innocence, according to her, should never be taken likely.

No one understood why such a caring and selfless person would be murdered in a town like Murdoch - but he was. He served as a father figure for every single tenant at Manhattan View; not just Oliver. Dylan was an expert at masking his feelings and hiding what he truly felt. He could never, ever be accused of raising his voice or having an affair with anyone other than his wife, Nancy. His murder caused quite a controversy in the once-innocent town of Murdoch. Nothing will ever be the same once his murderer is brought to justice. No one will ever feel the same either.

As soon as Dylan's death was processed, Nancy inherited Manhattan View. She was called in all the way from San Francisco, California to commandeer the complex. From the moment she stepped foot into the door, her tears led the way. With her past with Dylan behind her, she still couldn't face hearing that he had died. For the most part, she would take the memories she had left of Dylan and cherish them until it was her time to die too.

Evan was raised to be a lawyer in the Thompson family. However, when he was little he suffered a tragic car accident and caused slight brain damage. As a result of this brain damage, he has difficulty remembering things for a prolonged time. His shorter term often is his worst enemy. In contrast, from time to time, he is hurt by his own violent stints of long term memory. Like a Vietnam veteran, he receives forced bits and pieces when remembering long term memory.

Maya must juggle being an elementary school teacher, while taking care of her sick brother. When they were little, he hit the hippocampal region of his brain during a car accident. She dreams of having a real life outside of Manhattan View.
