I was looking through RPG biographies and was wondering if the names you have used for your characters are names you really like or just names you thought would fit the character?

I myself mostly choose names I like.

Some of my favourite names are:

FEMALE
Vassilissa, Lilliana, Mariska, Elena, Masha (pronounce: 'mawscha'), Anastasia, Lilith, Désirée, Adéle, Isarma, Savannah, Gisélle, Brandi/Brenda, Jasmiin (Estonian version; pronounce: 'yah-smeen'), Melissa, Rheia.

MALE
Johannes (pronounce: 'yo-hannes"), Gabriel (pronounce: 'gawbri-el'), Rein (pronounce: 'rain').

I'm such a name freak! lol.

Also.. do you like unusual/unique or common names? I myself like a little of each.

I think I take names from songs a lot nowadays (Adrienne, Roxanne etc.) but sometimes it just depends. Some unique names are really cool, but sometimes you just have to think "No, they wouldn't be called that." Then again, I like some more common names (Shelly, Jason etc.)

I would say my favourite names I've used are Adrienne, Leonara, Asher, Clayton, Cristina (shit, this is looking like my whole list), Alayna and Daisy (who was almost named Rose, then Holly said Polly, then I wanted Poppy, then Spaced was on lol)

I like to think of names that are commonly used today, but aren't that popular. When I'm thinking of names for RPGs, I tend to stay away from the very common names like Jennifer and Sarah. I mean I have nothing against those names, but I think names say a lot and I tend to lean away from them.

All the names I used for RPGs here are: Kristen, Callia, Grace, Rachael, Summer, Danielle, Lyla. Names like Kristen and Danielle maybe be used commonly, but it's not too common that's it boring.

Other general names that I like are Natalie, Fiona, Melody, Emma (one of the common ones...), Savannah, Arielle, Lacey, and a couple of others.

Yeah same here. I like unique names unless they're not too weird. But I also like more normal names that aren't too common or popular and overly used since names, IMO, always hold deep meanings and is a part of the person/character.

I like Melody and Savannah. They sound nice. :)

ooouh,a name thread! Was half-expecting this Suz.lol I love names as much as you. I like researching them and finding new ones from different cultures. Just recently i realised that i almost always comment on someone's name. I find it very important!

Rpg characters- wise, i have difficulty choosing names. Only because i believe that the name should reflect the character and vice versa. So i pick names that are suitable for my characters and with which i am satisfied.

I love modern american/english (unless they are overused),celtic/irish,ancient greek and spanish names. Rare and unique ones are cool!Unless they are extravagant and weird.

Names i like:
Girls: Magdalene(used it in rpg), Elisabeth, Claire, Evelyn, Brianna, Caitriona, October, June, Arwen, Lorraine
Boys: James(common i know but i totally adore it),Kieran or Ciaran, Sirius, Evan, Alexander, Orestes, Charles.

That's all i can think of for now.Im sure i have other favourites that i forget at the moment.lol

I watched this movie. I don't even remember what movie it was. But there was a really good looking guy and his name was James in the movie. Lol. It was stupid, but I've been obsessed with people named James ever since.

I have friends both named Juliet and Charlotte. I'm so jealous of their names! Hehe...

What is your real name anyway?I'm curious! That's if you want to share. My friends here in Greece have common names which they dislike lol. Catherine,Georgia,Panagiota,Chris etc I really like my own name. It's not extremely rare but it's not very common either.

Mm see when it comes to names I'm actually really picky. Especially with my rp characters in general. I don't know what it is...I can literally spend hours looking for the perfect fit. I like to use names that nobody else is, because I guess in a way I figure that represents me the most. I'm an individual and I try my best to incorperate that into my characters. As for just liking names, I obviously like the names I give to my characters otherwise they simply wouldn't have them. At the same time as using names nobody else does I do try not to go too far out there and go crazy. I don't know, there isn't really ever a reason for it. Some names just have a good feel about them I guess. I'm rambling...!

Kavan, Barnaby, Tobe, Loki, Kaden but also James. I guess James holds more of a personal meaning behind my liking, it's my mother's maiden name and my older brother's middle name. It's tied to my family, and I just like it. To me it sounds very English.

Girl names are a lot rarer for me to like, if only because there seems to be so many in comparison to boys. Acacia and Rafferty are ones that I have used but I also like Alex. Used to like Robyn too but it's kinda wearing off.

Heh..I'm weird right.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, my favourite name of all times is Vassilissa! It's a queen/princess from a very famous Russian fairy-tale, she married the Russian czar, she was called "Vassilissa The Beautiful/Lovely".
I also found out through Anna that it means "queen" in Greek, lol!

Mmmm...names. I'm not really sure what goes into picking names for my charries. I tend to try and stay with things that sound relatively common - Raven, Annabelle, Hunter, etc. I like to put my own spin on names, though, like Feyith - it's pretty much Faith, pronounced a bit differently with a different spelling.

I think names are very indicative of the character you've created, so I think they mean a lot. In the case of Raven, I really wanted to create a name that was kind of weird for her to have. It's not everyday you meet a Goth chick with that name Raven. The whole concept might be trite, but I thought it was a funny little in-joke on my part.

I really like names like Serenity, Illyria [Angel love WHAT], Faith, Autumn, Desiree, Naomi, Xander, Landon. The list goes on and on. I usually come up with RPG names on the fly, though - usually it's the first name to pop into my head when coming up with the concept of a specific person. Sometimes they undergo complete overhauls. I like to do numerology for each charrie I create, so names are very important to me. It helps shape their personality.

I'm actually kind of picky about the names I use for my characters. I don't like to pick really weird names, or names that just no one has, because especially with real-life rpgs it just seems kind of weird to name a character a name that is never ever used. I also tend to pick names that reflect their heritage, like if my Actor Image is Italian, I will name them an Italian last name.

Like my character Donovan Lombardi has an Italian last name because his character is Italian, and I had a character named Jocelin Monet, because she was french, um...I've had a character named Jane Czarnecki because she was polish... I tend to be more detailed when it comes to last names than first names.

Sometimes the names I choose have hidden meanings, like Evan Montgomery is named Evan because it's one of my favourite names and I like to name girls boy names, and Montgomery comes from Grey's Anatomy, Addison Montgomery. Then I have a character named Devon Banks, and his name is Devon Banks because thats Will Arnett's character on 30 rock. Then my newest character Emmeline Bellefontaine, her name comes from a poem i found when i was looking up pictures of her, called Evangeline, and it's about a woman named Evangeline Bellefontaine and it also states that in other versions her name is Emmeline LaBiche.

There are names I have used more than once, or use often like Nathan/Nathaniel, Montgomery (last name), Brandon, Navarro (last name)... there more but i can't remember them.
