View Full Version : What foreign/ethnic music do you enjoy?
The musical sound has vastness and variety just like the people who make it happen. Apart from the usual pop,rock,hip-hop there are so many different musics in the world. Latin(general term), Cuban, African, Egyptian, Celtic(general term), Irish, Native American, Spanish, Traditional Greek etc So which alternative foreign sound do you really enjoy?
I love music! And i also enjoy listening to new sounds. I believe that a culture's music reveals a lot about it. So i am a huge fan of celtic music. It's so beautiful, magical and serene with the bagpipes ad the flute. Usually the singers' voices are fairy-like. Musicians i love: Loreena McKennitt, Celtic Woman, Clannad, Aeone, Enya etc
I also like any kind of latin music be it cuban, spanish, brazilian or whatever because it's got passion and true rythm! And Egyptian because it reminds me of the past and it is the kind of music that creeps into you.
Native American!!Just amazing this music is, i have several cds. Their music is so natural, feels like the elements and the animals are playing it and not humans. I especially like it when they include chants in their songs.

Great thread, Anna! haha. We make some good stuff, don't we? :D
Anyways, I really like Middle-Eastern music (Egyptian, Arabic, Hebrew), Indian, Chinese. I also like Estonian, Swedish, Slavic (artists like Ruslana, Varvara & Russian band Raznotravie), Siberian (for ex. bands like Yat-Kha and Huun-Huur-Tu) and Chuvash folk songs.
I like Celtic too (Enya, Loreena McKennitt).
There's probably more (as always) that I can't remember at the moment..lol!
hehe Yeah!:) Go sisters!
you reminded me of Chinese music!!omg how could i forget? So yeah i'll have to add that i also enjoy Chinese and Japanese music. It really touches the heart and the senses. I like it in movies too like the House of Flying Daggers and Memoirs of a Geisha.<3

Okay, I love Japanese pop, otherwise known as J-pop as well as ranchera music and mariachi music from Mexico. :D I'm Mexican after all, I think that has a lot to do with that and I'm obsessed with Bhangra music, it's quite exhilarating and fun to dance to.

Chinese music, hands down! Hehe... Well, that's because I'm Chinese. But if you asked me if I liked it a couple of months ago, I would have said no. But now it's like all I listen to! Korean music is sometimes okay too. Spanish music is sometimes cool because I'm learning Spanish in school and I like to listen to it to see what phrases I can pick out.

I really enjoy German music! My dad lived in Germany for twenty-three years and he loves it there, so I've heard some of the music he still had from back in the day and I just fell in love with it. Rock, Heavy Metal but I looooove techno music! It's soooo fun to dance too!
I love Indian music too, the sounds and beats are just...awesome!

So, I'm from Quebec, which means that basically, listening to French music is a must pretty much for me!
I have a few artists that I like. Even if the only person that will be able to understand probably is Alexis and perhaps Nadya and Rhi a teensy bit, I'll link you to a few youtube clips:
Radio Radio (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFSkCxNw_ew)-This is a band from L'Ecosse...which I'm having a blank on the name right now in English... Nova Scotia? I think that's it. Anyways, they're a rap/punk band. Their lyrics are hilarious. <3 Mucho loveage to them and they are pretty much my pick me up if I'm pissed off.
Marie-Mai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwzPPiwuAV8)-Okay, I'm probably biased cause we went to school together and I'm friends with her, but I think my favorite French language clip ever is Marie-Mai's Mentir. Even if you can't understand the lyrics, you can still definitely appreciate the artistry in the clip.
Karkwa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFyyATZTAG8)-Karkwa is basically my favorite French band. Their lyrics are really interesting, and they're really nice guys in real life too, which is a total bonus.
Omnikrom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZT87RDtoHo)-It's basically a Dictem that if you're under 25 and you live in Quebec, you have to like Omnikrom. They are seriously the epitome of cool and I love them. Their best clip is "Prends Une Photo Avec Moi" (Take a Picture With Me).
Gatineau (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IRKXUnW_j0)-The final clip that I'll post. By far, Gatineau gives the best concert of any Quebec bands, and their clips are always pretty damned hilarious.
