So, there's been some talk of this movie happening for quite some time, but it seems like it's really going to happen this time. Twilight, the movie, is due out in 2008 or early 2009, depending on how soon production starts. There is a director attached to the film: Catherine Hardwicke, the director of Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown.

Everybody has their own opinions as to which actors and actresses should fill the roles of the characters in this story, so I figured this would be an interesting topic to open up.

I just read that Kristen Stewart has been announced as the actress who will play Bella by Summit Entertainment. I'm still looking for confirmation, though. That information was found here (http://feeds.feedburner.com/stepheniemeyer).

ETA: Someone e-mailed the author's brother, and apparently that was posted by mistake.

"It appears that I made a mistake last night, and several people are probably very confused. Stephenie wanted me to test how quickly I could update information to get ready for the announcement. I was playing around with a few things and I accidentally posted the fake announcement (although it is true that she is one of the most popular actors that auditioned for the part). I'm very sorry for the confusion - I hope that clears it up.

-Seth"

YAY! That would be amazing if they actually do it. I love twilight and have wanted to see is come to the screen ever since I read twilight. Still it never seems to happen. Then agian, movies tend to butcher books and I hold twilight close to my heart. So I don't quite know how I feel about this. But who knows, everything could work.

Kristen Stewart? Well they could of done worse I suppose.

Yeah, I just edited my first post with a slight change. Apparently she has auditioned for the role but isn't definite yet. It was just a mistake on the part of Stephenie Meyer's brother who updates the site that the information used to be viewable at.

I'm a little apprehensive about the movie being made. While I love the books and love Thirteen, I'm scared that it could turn out to be one of those movies that ruins the books. I'd love to see some of the scenes reenacted on screen, but not at the cost of ruining the books.

Oh, ok. Still, Kirtsen wouldn't be so bad. I bet she'll get it.

I feel you're pain. I don't think there's been a movie that was true to the books since, uhm.....I think of one. Instead everything ends up being like Eragon or Order of the Pheonix, which isn't good.

Unfortunately, I don't think Kristen has the look nor the acting chops to pull of Bella - even if she is one of the easiest characters to play, she's not very complicated - but yes, I hope that someone else gets chosen for the role.

I'm also a bit apprehensive as the book being made into a movie. It's been my experience that so few books are aptly portrayed on the big screen.

I kiiiind of had a minor freak-out when I saw Kristen as being the one to play Bella, until Seth's message went up. I don't see her as Bella, and I could probably point out a million little nitpicky things that I don't like.

I think, that I may just forgo seeing the movie entirely, though. I just have this feeling that whoever they pick to play Edward they will get entirely wrong (for me, at least) and I'm not sure I'd like to set myself up for that sort of disappointment. The books, and my imagination are probably vivid enough. And then I can always subsist on fanvideos, if I really need media.

I ammm curious to see who they pick to play Alice, though. I've flip-flopped between Allison Mack and Ellen Page for a while.

UGH. JUST ONE BIG GIANT CAPSLOCK WORTHY UGH.

IT IS OFFICIAL, YOU GUYS. KRISTEN STEWART = BELLA SWAN.
(and I am officially in mourning.)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Teen actress Kristen Stewart will star in "Twilight," an indie vampire thriller-romance based on Stephenie Meyer's best-seller.

She will play Bella Swan, a 17-year-old who becomes drawn to a classmate who is a vampire. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when the classmate's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

Catherine Hardwicke ("thirteen") is directing the Summit Entertainment project, which starts shooting in February.

"Twilight" and its sequels have topped best-seller lists at the New York Times and USA Today, and have garnered legions of devoted teenage fans.

Stewart is in theaters with Sean Penn's "Into the Wild." She played Jodie Foster's daughter in "Panic Room," and Meg Ryan's daughter in "In the Land of Women."

Stephenie, seems to be happy, as this is what she said, on her website:

I'm very excited to have Kristen Stewart play Bella in the upcoming Twilight movie. She's an amazing actress with experience all across the board—action, horror, comedy, romance, and more. Since Twilight has moments that fit into every one of these genres, I'm thrilled to have a Bella who has practice with them all.

Summit's vision of the Twilight movie continues to dovetail very closely with mine, and I'm comforted to know that my "baby" is in the right hands.

For every actress that has been suggested as Bella in the past few years, there are always a slew of critics that cry, "But she doesn't look like Bella!" (Which can often be translated thusly: "She doesn't look like ME!") To this I would like to say: "Of course she doesn't!" Bella is a fictional character, and she looks different to everyone. As is the same with every actor who will be cast in the next few months, no one is going to match up with your mental picture exactly—or mine. The thing to hope for is a really great actor who can make us believe she is Bella (or Alice or so forth) for roughly two hours. I think we've got that with Kristen Stewart, and I can't wait to see her step into the role!

Stephenie

I know Stephenie got no say in the casting of the movie, because she's said before that she wasn't going to get to decide anything at all. BUT STILL.

The Emily/Gaspard art will continue in protest, I think.

(Also, I acknowledge that Kristen may be a fairly decent actress. As I have never seen any of her movies, I would not know for sure. This is mostly about how my opinon is that they should have gone for Emily Browning or Danielle Panabaker, both of whom are closer in actual age to Bella's in the book. Though I can understand why some directors would not want a 17 year old actress on the set, it would be difficult to shoot.)

Actually, agewise (not saying one way or another about how I feel about her being chosen) Kristen Stewart does fit better. She actually is 17 whereas Emily Browning is 19 and Danielle Panabaker is 20.

I am interested to see who they cast next. I am sure that no matter what people will be in an outrage. It's impossible to please everyone about it. Even if I hate the cast, I'll probably still see the movie, just to see. At least it doesn't actually affect the books. I never saw Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter when I was reading those books even though he has been playing him in the movies. I'm guessing it'll be the same for me with the Twilight Books as well. Personally I can't see a single person fitting anyone in the books so I'm kind of lenient when it comes to casting for the movies. (Now I admit, it might just be true with Twilight because I like the series but I'm not fanatical about it). Anyway, the most ideal for me would be/have been people I'd never even heard of at all.

Penny Lane
11-16-2007, 02:41 PM
Oh, okay. Oops! That thing about age was my bad, then. I thought Kristen was older than she actually is...and I hadn't realized Emily was 19 now, though I knew about Danielle being 20.

*edits*

A lot of this is probably because I am so invested in the fandom. I realize I'm acting insane, definitely. The only one I'm super interested in seeing who they end up casting is Jasper, because he was the one character I couldn't visualize at all. I have a feeling they're gonna reveal Edward last, to build suspense...or perhaps cause the standards are so high, haha.

Ugh. I'm so upset that Kristen Stewart is being cast as Bella. Seriously, I think that Emily would have outshined her in so many ways. It's really quite sad. But I'm even more curious to see who they'll pick as Edward. They had better make a good choice, otherwise I'm going on strike. *sniffs* Twilight fans unite!

God casting this movie is so controversial! In Hollywood it's not how old you really are, it how old you look which is why people like Chad Michael Murray who is actually in his mid 20s are still cast in teen roles. When I read Twilight I pictured Alexis Bledel as Bella, Drew Fuller as Edward, and Steven Strait as Jake (I think a majority of the fandom have picked him as their Jacob anyways). I'm okay with Kristen as Bella, but she's more awkward then I pictured Bella. Oh well.... Kristen is a good actress, they could've done worse. At least she has some substance and experience to her. But casting Edward will be more tricky, because everyone is so crazy and particular. I can tell you right now... people will be furious when when their favorite isn't cast. It's a really touchy subject and I think making this movie will be extremely hard, because they can't please everyone. That why I'm giving it a chance, because these poor people must be pulling out their hair hoping that they've made the right decision.

Statement from Stephenie Meyer's Myspace blog on "Twilight":

"Summit Entertainment announced today that Robert Pattinson joins the cast of Twilight as Edward. See the full press release at www.stepheniemeyer.com.

I'm sorry the original post here was so terse! I got the call that I was allowed to post the news literally two minutes before I had to leave for an appointment. I just got home and I've been reading through some of the commentary around the fandom about Robert Pattinson.

I want you to know that I am really very pleased about this choice. Robert hasn't been one of the popular fan choices whose faces pop up on my comments page all the time, so I'd never really thought about him in the role before. When I got the news, it took me a little while to consider it (like a lot of you, I was pretty attached to the first person I'd cast in my head as Edward, so I had to readjust for a minute). I looked at all the pictures I could find, finally got around to watching HP4 (which I own, but had never seen before), and I read through the script picturing Robert in the role.

By the time I was done with my research (writing: a line of work where you can legitimately call drooling over hot boys "research."), I was kind of shocked that I'd never considered Robert before. Aside from my dearest Henry, Robert is truly the first person I've pictured in the role who I think can pull it off. The boy just looks like a vampire.

Also, I hear very encouraging things from the people who watched his auditions. They've been at this for months now, you know, reading Edward hopefuls day after day. Robert knocked their socks off; once he read for the part, the search was over. In other good news, apparently there is excellent chemistry between Robert and Kristen (they have all the major actors read together to make sure they fit), his American accent is flawless, AND he's read all three novels!

So YAY! for Robert Pattinson!"

Aww he's really very cute! I'm not sure how everyone else will feel about it, but I like him! I think he looks like Edward in my opinion, but then again no one will EVER be right in the fan's opinions. Everyone will want their actor and not everyone can be pleased. So... I'm happy. Not sure about everyone else.

I don't mind him as Edward at all, but then again, I was never die hard about certain people being cast in the roles. What I do like is that he's relatively unknown. He played Cedric, but it wasn't the sort of role to me where you see him as that and nothing else. And as it is the only role I have seen him in, I think he could step into the role of Edward quite nicely.

Acting skill, of course, with all of them is key.

Oh, wow. I can't believe I never commented on here about Twilight: The Movie before. I'm a total addict to the series, and even though I'm sure that the movie will never completely be what I imagined (because really, Stephanie Meyer has set such high standards from the novels greatness in our minds that it would be impossible for Hollywood to create a movie as fabulous as the books), I'm so going to go and see it anyways - even if its a total bomb if only to support the wonderful series.

But yes, I never really quite pictured Emily as my Bella, and I don't know why. She really does look quite like her, I suppose, but I had never really seen her act before and so I was more hesitant as to jump on the Emily bandwagon for Bella. In fact, Bella was the one character that I could hardly ever picture in my mind. She was just too controversial, because the book was told from her point of view, it made her out like she was kind of average and, at some points in time, ugly - mostly because of her constant comparing of herself to gorgeous vampires. But really, its easy to tell that she's really pretty. But yes, anyways, Bella was always hard to picture in my mind.

I have to admit, I've been a fan of Kristen ever since I first saw her in Speak. Granted, back then she was much more awkward and lanky - but come on, she was just a pre-teen back then. If you've ever seen The Messengers or even In The Land of Women (even though I'm not too fond of her with the blonde hair), then you'd know that she's really developed appearance wise. Though I think my favorite movie that she was ever in has to be Speak, just because of the amazing acting and message of that movie.

As for Edward, I was a huge GASPARDHOTSEXULLIEL fan. I mean, really. He just screams vampire, no? Plus, his accent is to die for. Buuut, I admit that I'm not a fan of the older actors and actresses playing high schooler roles, and so I'd be a total hypocrite if I complained about him not getting the role. Besides, he's french. And in mostly french films, excluding Hannibal Rising. But yeah, I like that he isn't some overly known actor like Chad Michael Murray or something (I'd HAVE to boycott the movie if he ever got cast in it AS ANYTHING, except maybe some snotty character). And plus, he's very cute. I can picture him as Edward, I'll just have to re-watch HP4. Aha<3

I personally never wanted the movie to be made seeing as many movies based from books have been slaughtered. I don't personally see Kristen Stewart as Bella but the only movie I've seen her in was Panic Room so as long as her acting ability is up to par, she could do well with it. It's good to know that Stephenie Meyer has confidence that the film will stay true to the novel which I think it the most important part.

As for Robert Pattinson, never seen him in anything though I heard about him in Harry Potter and I always found him attractive plus now that I look at more photos of him... He does strike me as an excellent Edward and they say his American accent is flawless, that gets me more motivated for the movie. :D Plus he's read the books, that's pretty cool. I agree with Kat, that it's great he's not very famous. Even Kristen I didn't know until I imdb'd her. At this rate the film is slowly getting more and more approval by me whereas at first I was not happy with the news at all. The cast is just as important but I'm concerned with the adaptation. I wonder how they'll go about that also I want to know who'll be cast as Carlisle and Jacob. :p Heh. But all I can say is if Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have that right chemistry, then hopefully everything else will fall into place too. ^.^

I actually think a show would have been better to fit in every detail of the book, but I logged that away into my fantasies to never come true. Heh. I am pleased but I too am not *uber fangirl* I love the books, but haven't even read Eclipse and sometimes all the people squealing over all the books/actors or actresses/names can get on my nerves. I mostly just check here to see who has been cast as for my opinions of the cast, I have none. That's why I like books, you can make up your own cast. :p

I can safely say I'm interested and pleased that Robert Pattinson got cast as Edward, he was one of the hardest to cast. With Kristen Stewart, ugh, is all I can say. Well, you win some and you lose some. I just hope she doesn't butcher the whole thing by her horrible acting.

Another post, another update. I know a lot of fans of the books were wondering you would be chosen to play Emmett Cullen, and now I can let you know: Kellan Lutz.

Also, the role of Jasper Hale will be played by Jackson Rathbone, who was actually one of Stephanie Meyer's favorites for the role of Edward Cullen.

I honestly think that Emily Browning should have been playing Bella. She's my image of Bella. I got really upset that Kirsten is playing Bella. I heard that the guy who played Cedric is playing edward. I'm not sure how true that is but that's what I heard.

Rockferry

I think it's stupid that people get upset about Emily Browning not playing Bella. Did she audition? No. So stop complaining and deal with what your given. They can't give a role to someone who didn't audition or show interest in the first place.

The cast is actually turning out to not be so bad. I don't really agree with Kristen playing Bella, but I really don't know who else they auditioned, so I can't make an alternate suggestion.

I love that Kellan and Cam is in this movie now! They're both so sexy. Gahhh!

I'm actually loving the cast so far, too. I'm apprehensive about Nikki Reed based solely on her appearance, but I think she could hold my attention by reading the nutritional information off of a cereal box, so I'm sure they'll do the best they can to make her fit the appearance of the character in the book. I'm really, really glad that they're going with mostly unknowns for the cast. Honestly, no one fan of the Twilight books is going to be completely happy with the cast chosen, since we all have our minds made up about what all of these characters look like, but personally, I never thought about Kellen to play Emmett, but I think his look fits the personality of the character, and the same goes for Cam.

Now that I know who Elizabeth Reeser is I don't like her as Esme. I don't think Elizabeth Reeser is pretty at all. But that's me. But the rest of the cast is okay. I'm not all too fond of the promos though. They could've done a better job on the promos. I'm glad to see Peter Facinelli in there. I didn't even consider him, but he looks kind of weird with blond hair. But I'll get use to it. I'm also gonna have to get use to Nikki being blond too. Over all the cast is okay... I have my favorites and I have the ones I don't like. Right now I'm excited to see Kellan, Cam, Nikki, and Peter. *nod* I'm indifferent about Kristen, Jackson, and Ashley. I hate Elizabeth of course.

Remember the Stars
02-19-2008, 11:46 AM
I don't think that these promos weren't meant to fully capture the characters or anything. It really is just an introduction to the actors who will be portraying the Cullen family. I was talking with Daphne last night, and the only problem we really had with Esme and Carlisle's casting was the fact that they look too old by about a decade. Kellan Lutz as Emmett Cullen actually seems to be right on as far as looks go. I really, really, really don't like who they cast as Jasper, just because his hair looks weird and I always pictured Jasper with sharper, more masculine features. Robert as Edward is really growing on me, and I think the promos proved that he could pull it off looks wise, and the same goes for Nikki Reed. A lot of people were worried that she couldn't pull it off look wise, but makeup and hair dye goes a long way. I'm going to hold my judgement on the rest of the characters until I see how their appearance from the book is incorporated with the actors and actresses chosen to play them, but so far, I don't think the movie is going to be as awful and inaccurate as people thought, if the casting has any bearing on the rest of the film.

WOO. TIME FOR ME TO UPDATE MY OPINIONS ON THE NEW CASTING.
You have been warned... jkjk[==

First off, I adore Emmett. Kellen whatever, whoevers playing him, is pretty much as muscular I think they could make Emmett while still keeping him "pretty". You know what I mean? I'm just glad its not some sort of Pro-Wrestler type playing the role.

Edward is still amazing. I love Robert Pattinson as him now, because he's a really great actor in what I've seen of him, and he kind of has that Edward air about him, you know? Like he could be from the fifties or something. IDK, maybe thats just me. Aha[=

Carlisle does look pretty sharp, I have to admit. When I first saw a picture of him I couldn't imagine the blonde hair, but he pulls it off well. I'd love it if he was my doctor, ehmahgawd, haha.

Esme is on my "IDK, uncertain" list. She's pretty, but not like, "Esme". Or at least not how I imagined her. Plus, I think she looks much too old, but thats just my opinion. The actor chosen to play Carlisle looks like he could be in his late twenties, while the actress playing Esme appears to be in her mid to late thirties. And her face is just so hard, I always imagined her much softer and welcoming looking.

JASPER IS OMG. DEFINITELY AN UNCERTAIN. I loved Jackson in Beautiful People, but the blonde hair is killing me! Just take it out. I could adjust to a Jasper with a light brunette hair color. He does have the tall, lanky frame and unless its changed since when he was on Beautiful People, he has a rather sharp jawline and facial structure.

Alice and Rosalie: Their both very pretty, and Nikki Reed is a seriously talented actress. I don't know if she looks the "Goddess-like" beautiful that Rosalie does, but really, who could be that gorgeous and a talented actress, all in the same? At first I wasn't a fan of her with the blonde hair, but after multiple clicks back to the picture, I'm kind of getting into it. And as for Alice, I approve (haha, like my opinion really matters). She's pretty and pixie like, and I love the hair.

I like to keep in mind that most pictures like these never capture how someone really appears while their in the action of, you know, acting. For example, I know I wasn't a huge fan of Leighton Meester as Blair from the promos, but now I can't see anyone else as her. A lot of actresses and actors are a lot prettier on film, like Robert Pattinson. And if they can act and really get into the character, then the appearance from the books kind of fades away, you know? And it'd be hard to picture anyone else as the cast.

There, my rambles[==
I'm sure they'll all do great and fit into the characters well though, otherwise they wouldn't of been casted.

Oh, and as a side note, P.S., whatever, I love that a majority of them are unknown, non A-list celebrities. I'd hate it if it was all Sophia Bush's, Chad Michael Murrays, Jessica Alba's. Their great and talented, but its nice to see some fresh faces in Hollywood.

Billy Burke
Edi Cathegi

I'm guessing Billy Burke is going to be Charlie Swan and Taylor Lautner is going to be Jacob Black, but I haven't found any definitive information as to who's who.

Amaaaanda, you're amazing.

Alrighty, I'm all that happy on the actors they have chosen for the characters. The only one I think I'm okay with is Kellan as Emmett. I loved him in Stick It! I think he'll do an awesome job in Twilight.

I guess the actors they chose resemable the characters a bit, I just have my own picked out in my head and I think that's my problem. Most of you could probably understand where I'm coming from. Lol.

Nikki Reed...as Rosalie? That is something I'm going to have to deal with though. I love Nikki, I really do, but her as a pale, beautiful blonde? Noooo!

I'm kinda okay with the actors they have chosen, I just wouldn't have picked them.

Hey guys, I thought you might enjoy a couple of pictures from my weekend on the set of Twilight the movie. It was an amazing time; I had the chance to visit some of the film sites (Oregon is gorgeous!), go through the story boards (if just scanning through the sketches is so exciting, I can only imagine how much more thrilling the live action will be), watch some brief videos of stunt work (ouch! but so cool), and even catch a little bit of a vampire baseball game (look out—James is a ringer). My favorite part was dinner with some of the cast and crew. You don't know surreal until you sit down at a table with people out of your imagination. It was more than a little bit disturbing how pretty everyone was, and who knew movie stars were so nice? Anyway, if you ever get a chance to visit the set of a movie based on a book you wrote, I definitely recommend that you go for it.

Okay, this is seriously making me look like a Twilight dork, but I promise that I'm not that big of one:

Christian Serratos has confirmed that she will be playing Angela through her MySpace blog.

Hey there guys! I'm off to Oregon to play 'Angela' in "Twilight". I'm so excited! After being cast in "Twilight" I read all three books and now I too am a huge Stephenie Meyer fan. Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse are my favorite books and now I'm off to be apart of the movie. I have been listening and reading up on all the 'Twilight' sites: twilighters.org, twilightlexicon and IMDb. I love all the posters and manips made by the Twilight fans. They are so cool. Everyone is so talented.

So, the cast is as follows so far:

Character --- Actor/Actress
Bella Swan --- Kristen Stewart

Edward Cullen --- Robert Pattinson
Carlisle Cullen --- Peter Facinelli
Esme Cullen --- Elizabeth Reaser
Alice Cullen --- Ashley Greene
Emmett Cullen --- Kellan Lutz
Rosalie Hale --- Nikki Reed

Alright, just a quick update and a quote from Billy Burke on being cast as Charlie Swan:

"I started off my career being the bad boyfriend running around with the gun, and now I'm officially old enough to play a 17-year-old's father," observes Billy Burke, recently seen in the thriller "Untraceable" — and now, just beginning work as Kristen Stewart's pere in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyers' young adult novel, "Twilight." "It's about a young girl who comes to live with her dad and falls for a vampire — sort of a vampire Romeo and Juliet." At the helm is Catherine Hardwicke, "one of my favorite up-and-coming directors — who did 'Thirteen' and 'Lords of Dogtown.'"

So, the cast is as follows so far:

Character --- Actor/Actress
Bella Swan --- Kristen Stewart
Charlie Swan --- Billy Burke

Edward Cullen --- Robert Pattinson
Carlisle Cullen --- Peter Facinelli
Esme Cullen --- Elizabeth Reaser
Alice Cullen --- Ashley Greene
Emmett Cullen --- Kellan Lutz

Solomon Trimble cast as Sam Uley. It's his first movie role ever, and he actually went to the auditions to support his younger brother who was auditioning for a part. The casting director loved his look, had him read, and now he's signed on for a three picture deal. You can see his picture here (http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper941/stills/61j8g31z.jpg).

Also, Edi Gathegi had confirmed he'll be playing the role of Laurent.

So, the cast is as follows so far:

Character --- Actor/Actress
Bella Swan --- Kristen Stewart
Charlie Swan --- Billy Burke

Sam Uley --- Solomon Trimble

Edward Cullen --- Robert Pattinson
Carlisle Cullen --- Peter Facinelli
Esme Cullen --- Elizabeth Reaser
Alice Cullen --- Ashley Greene
Emmett Cullen --- Kellan Lutz
Rosalie Hale --- Nikki Reed
Jasper Hale --- Jackson Rathbone

Laurent --- Edi Gathegi
Victoria --- Rachelle Lefevre
James --- Cam Gigandet

Mike Newton --- Mike Welch
Jessica Stanley --- Anna Kendrick
Eric Yorkie --- Justin Chon
Angela --- Christian Serratos

Well, I haven't read any of the books yet. (I know, I know!) The story and cast looks amazing so I pre-ordered the book from the library and it just came in. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. Yay! :)

This gets more and more exciting everytime someone updates the thread. I can't wait for the movie to come out and I have this weird feeling that it's going to take a really long time! The wait is killing me. I finally started on New Moon, which has been sitting on my shelf looking pretty and stuffage. But is finally being read. Let's hope I get through it quick, so I can start Eclipse.

Thanks for all the updates Amanda, much appreciated. :D

I have to admit that I am not an insane fan when it comes to the books, not that they aren't well-written because I think they are, but because I thought there were probably too many remarks that Bella said regarding Edward's appearance. It was tiresome after a while ;) But anyhow, I am growing more and more and more (yes three more's, that's how much my excitement is growing ;)) excited over the films. I really liked Robert Pattinson in Harry Potter and I can't wait to see him play Edward. I also like the other cast as well, donno why but I suppose it's because they fit kind of how I imagined them when reading :)

I have no idea who Kellen is... but he does look good as Emmett and I concur what the flip is up with Jasper's hair. o.O Not cute.

And ahhhhhhh Robert Pattinson is so great for Edward. I see the pics and keep falling in love over and over and over... and over again with him. :p Kristen is meh to me still but nowhere near my state of complete shock at first. She looks good in the pictures with him, it's a good vibe which is shocking since I was iffy about all this to begin with because books to screen is hard. But who knows. Thanks for the updates, Amanda! Nice to know the release date and the dude for Billy Black looks pretty cool, can't lie. He looks like Billy to me. *nod*

Okay, so, a while back I stumbled across the name Gregory Tyree Boyce as a part of the cast list, but I couldn't find any information on him, so I didn't post him here. Well, I still can't find any information on him, which is really annoying, but according to a French Twilight site, he'll be taking over the role of Tyler Crowley.

Not really news for Twilight specifically, but interesting nonetheless:

Source:Ryan Rotten
March 28, 2008

Shock recently ventured to the damp, nippy environs of Portland, Oregon where Catharine Hardwicke is barreling through a 45-day principal photography schedule for Twilight (blog entry), the live-action adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's novel of the same name starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

As disciples of Meyer know, Twilight is the first in a series of books - which includes "New Moon," "Eclipse" and the forthcoming entry "Breaking Dawn" - thus opening the door to a potential cinematic franchise. But will the first film's performance the weekend of December 12th dictate whether New Moon gets the green light? Summit Entertainment and its producers may not even wait that long to find out.

Summit CEO Rob Friedman teases us with a confident smile, "We're talking about it."

Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey takes that one step further with, "The goal is, we've got the [sequel] script ready to go and come December we want to shoot it for about the same time - for the weather and stuff we don't want to be in the heat of the winter. Obviously, you know the next book and know we can go out into the sun a little bit more. Hopefully, we'll have it ready to go and ready to start prepping for the beginning of next year."

Much more to come from the set of Twilight, including pics and a candid chat with the Cullen family!

Field Trip? (http://i28.tinypic.com/2rnh6w4.jpg)
Apparently they added a field trip to a saw mill that wasn't in the book. I don't know. There are no real details on it, at least, not that I am willing to read.

Gah, Jasper's hair! (http://i25.tinypic.com/20szho2.jpg)

My friend basically told me I'm reading Twilight. I haven't actually started...yet. Though sometimes movies ruin books (seeing as the HP's aren't living up anymore so far), I think I want to see the movie first to determine if I want to read the book :D.

Angelic

Nay your logic is kinda funky right now heh but when is it ever not so? ;) Nay you should really just read the back or inside cover of Twilight, once I read that I knew I wanted to read the rest of it. I remember borrowing it after my friend Sam was done, and finishing it within 2 days. (High school gave me so much time to read!) I think it's worth it, so maybe over the summer or something when you have time. :)

I'd definitely read the books before watching the movie because there are already reports from set of things being added in/taken out of the story. I mean, Jacob's supposed to be this 6'+ man-child, basically, and Taylor Lautner looks barely 5'9" and has very little muscle mass, so that dynamic is already going to be altered. Plus, there's a field trip or something that isn't in the book that's going to be in the movies, and making a mental picture for myself was more enjoyable while reading than I think any movie could be.

Angelic
04-08-2008, 10:33 AM
I concur wholeheartedly. That's why I originally didn't want the books to be made into films, I figured so many elements would be changed or removed completely. I also like how it was in my head too. Things are going to be way different and the books are good by themselves. I am still looking forward tot he movie but I agree, I try to read books before the movies and sometimes I already have read them before they are even made into movies. A few I haven't read though and want to since I loved/liked the movies. It depends really.

But yeah the field trip deal is strange. I wonder what the story is behind that. o.O That makes me sad about Jacob. I enjoyed him growing up from Twilight to New Moon. Stark contrast.

Aha, even if the Robsters voice still makes me melt. ANYWAYS, yeah, loving the Nikki/Kellanness. Their just too cute[=

OH, and whatshisface that played Jasper - "I don't know... they have brooms." AHAH, totallyyyy cracked up at that[=

And I just watched the "Teenage Lust..." video, and omg, Catherine whatever, woww. "I had them come over to my house and rehearse the love scene on my bed, and they were on my bed, and uhm, it was like woahh." Yeah, my quotings majorly off, so sue me. I actually agree, the Nikki/Kellan chemistry is completely visible even from the short exchange right there. I am excited to see them onscreen and such. I didn't even like Nikki's look at first but she's very charismatic and I've seen movies with her in comparison with only one film of Kristen's (when she was like 13... Panic Room anyone?) sp yeah... I really like themmmm. And I know. Robert is just gwah. Can't even describe. But yeah sorry Kristen people, I am bored with her. Completely. That's why I'm hoping it's just her regular personality or maybe she just doesn't like talking in interviews or doesn't feel comfortable but that her Bella performance really does shine because apparently the director and Stephenie are all about her. I have yet to see the sparkle. *shrug*

I hated 95.9% of the cast at first to be honest. I dunno, I guess a lot of them didn't match up to how I imagined the characters in my head. But now that I've been keeping up with all these wonderful updates, pretty much all of them are growing on me. I really, really didn't like Robert and Kirsten as Edward and Bella - I had always pictured Gaspard and Emily because I was so used to seeing them around - but now I am really starting to like them. I think they do fit the part now and I think they'll both do wonderfully. I really like Nikki Reed as Rosalie, and Emmett as Kellan. I think they were the only two I liked from the time they were casted. They look so cute together, and I feel like they'll have amazing chemistry! I'm not a big fan of Jasper's hair still, though, heh. But everyone else has also grown on me more too, especially Esme. One thing I totally missed from the books was the fact that Laurent was African American, lmao. I don't know how, but I did. I've even read them all twice. =S Unless he was Caucasian in the books? *will check later*

Overall, I'm so very excited for the movie to come out. I really can't wait, because Twilight has become my number one obsession. Harry Potter had always been there, but I love this so much more. <33 Thanks for all the awesome updates!

I thought he was Caucasian too, but I like the idea of an African American actor playing him! It rounds out the cast nicely and he'll definitely pop.

I HATE the actress playing Esme. Sorry... I just think Elizabeth Reeser is ugly. And I'll have a hard time getting into her, when her GA character will be in my mind the entire time. I thought they'd pick someone a bit younger. Elizabeth just looks OLD. Too old.

That was the best behind the scenes video to date! I am kinda crushing on James too... can't even lie. And Laurent's look is very interesting. I think Victoria is cast perfectly. Anyways, I am looking forward to this and gahhhh Robert. I could stare at him all day... which is one of the reasons he's my av here and on TRC. *nervous laugh* I loved seeing the part where Edward kisses Bella on the forehead in the hospital. I may be a little be slaphappy but it made me all warm and fuzzy. Kristen and him do have chemistry even from the small snippets there. I wonder how she plays off Bella though. It's that time again. Twilight Tuesday on MTV.com:

New video featuring Carlisle Cullen's car here (http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?vid=232373).

Information on possible sequels:
It was a gamble that paid off in a big way for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, but may have helped sink the “Matrix” films. As for the “Back to the Future” flicks, well, that battle continues to rage on. Now, the “Twilight” series is the latest blockbuster franchise making plans to shoot multiple sequels at the same time.

“It’s been discussed,” producer Greg Mooradian revealed to MTV News recently. “I can’t tell you we’re at that place yet, but it’s definitely been discussed.”

The advantages to such a plan are obvious: Rather than building sets and tearing them down only to be re-built a few years later, they can film multiple scenes; instead of selling vehicles and re-buying them (such as Carlisle Cullen’s Mercedes, which can be seen here), they can hold on to them; rather than having thirty-year-old actors pretending to still be in high school, they can stay the same age in each film.

“Our vampires can’t age…if they were like 45, people would say ‘What’s up?’” laughed director Catherine Hardwicke, citing one of the main problems with filming Stephenie Meyer’s “New Moon” and “Eclipse” novels. “[Filming them together] could be the case. Then, you just get it done.”

The main actors indicated to us that they are signed on for sequels, and Hardwicke said she hopes to return as well. “We’ve got our fingers crossed,” she beamed. “If the fans show up for this one, we’ll get to make more.”

Mooradian explained that as a producer, his goal is to get the movies done right, but also to get them on film quickly enough to maintain Meyer’s vision of perpetually-teenaged vampires. “We’re going to go as fast as humanly possible, especially since there are at least four stories to tell,” he insisted, factoring in the “Breaking Dawn” sequel due to be published in August. “We’d like to keep a real consistency as to how quickly we are able to do it. Some of the other stories are even bigger productions, so they require more prep time.”

Eyeballing such near-annual events as the “Harry Potter” films, Mooradian indicated that if “Twilight” is a hit, the sequels will go into production almost immediately. “The goal is to keep it moving quickly,” he explained. “[That will] give the audience a sense of knowing that the next installment is going to come at a really specific increment of time.”

Reached for comment, Stephenie Meyer said that she supports the idea of shooting the sequels simultaneously. “I think that would probably be a smart way to do it,” she explained. “It makes sense in a world where actors are actually aging, and our characters aren’t. That makes a lot of sense to me, but of course, we are still negotiating the contract on that.”

If Meyer, Mooradian and crew can come to an agreement, and moviegoers turn out in record numbers, look for Twilighters to be over the (New?) moon with a marathon shoot.
“[We like the idea of] shooting them back to back, and shooting them simultaneously as they did with ‘Lord of the Rings’,” the producer explained. “From a production standpoint, it’s a great thing to do. But it’s quite an undertaking.”

WOOP! I think they should...but that's me being a greedy fan. But it does make sense since in real life people do age (but I actually wouldn't care too much if they were about 2 years older looking because it's the story that really matter and we have imaginations and could possible understand that this isn't easy - but that's just me). And if something as long as LotR can do it, I'm sure they can too. Like they said , quickly as possible, but put together well =)

Mm, thanks for the clarification, Amanda. I've been trying to steer clear of imdb.com when it comes to this movie. I may have read the novel but the movie will still be different in some ways. I want some surprises y'know. *is lame like that* Though I am soooo anticipating the soundtrack. Being such a big music and film person, the soundtrack makes such a huuuuge difference to me too. ^.^

The first fully edited, complete scene from Twilight will be aired at the pre-show for the MTV Movie Awards. So, be sure to tune in at 7PM EST on June 1st to see it. Or just wait until it's on YouTube if you don't want to suffer through MTV.

I finished reading Twilight last night and I absolutely loved it, and my copy of New Moon arrived today along with another couple of books, so I've started reading that. I saw the trailer for it though just now and it looks absolutely awesome. I'm so excited for this film, and I so want to see it when it comes out. I'm also loving the people they've casted for each role. I was looking on a website for the actor who will play Carlisle and I was suprised, I know he's young, but well the guy is positively gorgeous :). I actually pictured Esme a little differently though, but I like the actress they've picked.

I'm also glad they cast Jackson as Jasper, after seeing an interview with him he definitely is Jasper to me. And Ashley Greene is Alice to me as well. I know some people probably wished that maybe Emily Browning was playing Bella but I'm sure it'll be a great film regardless of who's playing Bella and Edward. I'm glad to see that Robert's going to be in this.

The movie looks freakin' sick as hell though. Like, seriously... I guess Emily Browning would be a cool choice but Kristin Stewart is awesome and it doesn't matter to much to me anyway. The important thing is... Cedric Diggory is alive hahaha and I get to watch him all over again.

Although to be serious... I woulda played a more gangsta Bell for sure.

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT MOVES UP RELEASE DATE FOR TWILIGHT TO NOVEMBER 21, 2008

Los Angeles, CA August 15, 2008 — TWILIGHT, the first film in Summit Entertainment's thriller romance franchise, has moved up its North American release date to Friday, November 21, 2008. The film, which was previously planned to be released on December, 12, 2008, is taking advantage of an opening in the upcoming fall release calendar. The new release date for TWILIGHT allows the studio to both bring the film to the written-series' enormous fan base sooner, and to present the film in more theatres prior to the holiday movie-going season where traditionally screen time for any popular film is limited.

"When Warner Bros. decided to move HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE to the summer of 2009, we saw a unique opportunity to slot in our film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months," said Rob Friedman, Co-Chairman and CEO of Summit Entertainment. "We by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008, rather we are just looking to bring the fans of Stephenie Meyer's incredible book series the film as soon possible from a programming perspective."

Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in the thriller-romance based on Stephenie Meyer's publishing phenomenon, the film is directed by Catherine Hardwicke from a script by Melissa Rosenberg (STEP UP). Karen Rosenfelt (DEVIL WEARS PRADA), Greg Mooradian and Wyck Godfrey will produce along with Mark Morgan via his Maverick Films banner.

TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan (Stewart) who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together...even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

I find it interesting that they're moving the release date up. I don't know if that's because of the unhappiness the fans seemed to have about the last book or what, but they probably don't want to have to compete with Christmas movies, either.

Yeah... no you're not, Alex. You were outvoted. And announcing it online doesn't give you an extra vote.

Ummm, the more I listen to and read about Robert Pattinson, the less I can be assured if his whole persona is as endearing as genuine as everyone thinks it is.

In any case, I found this amusing.

Still, just last week the 22-year-old British actor was at an Apple store in New York City when a 7-year-old girl asked to take a photo with him. No big deal, right?

“But then she went really quiet and she was like, 'Can you bite me?' ” Pattinson told me with a somewhat nervous laugh yesterday in a Beverly Wilshire Hotel room, where he’d been holed up doing press all weekend. “It wasn’t a joke...I looked at her and thought, 'Do you know what you’re saying?' There are these kinds of sexual thoughts that come out of people that they don’t even know are sexual.”

Remember the Stars
11-14-2008, 07:16 PM
I don't think it looks cheap. Well, the CGI looks like crap, so clearly, a lot of money wasn't spent there, but I think they're just relying on color temperature too much to set the mood of the story. Forks could be dreary and rainy without so much freaking blue and gray. It's too stylized, and I think they're relying on the cinematography to tell the story to make up for the weak acting.

Blondie

They attempted the glittering thing, which wasn't THAT spectacular... if fact it was kind of cheap looking. But my sister said it was better then she expected and I'll have to agree with her. It was okay. I'd give it a 4 or 5 out of 10.

Argh you guys are killing me! Twilight doesn't hit the cinema's here in Australia till almost mid December. I would love the chance to see it now rather then december.... *sigh*

Rockferry
11-21-2008, 08:42 PM
Yeah, my best advice is to go in with no expectations and an open mind. You have more freedom to appreciate it for what it is... not what it's not. It's one person's interpretation of the book and I think it was a good try. Everyone's expectations aren't going to be met obviously, but it's a good movie on it's own. I think it would've been much better with a bigger budget. I have a feeling New Moon will be a lot better... special effects wise.

Some of the things I expect to improve in the future movies:

- Wardrobe & Make-Up (James' wardrobe and long hair bugged me and as did Jasper's hair)
- Special Effects (The sparkly skin could be better)
- Sets (Bella and Edwards rooms were a bit smaller then I expected as was the garage which housed the Cullen's fleet of cars)

All in all... these types of movies are tricky to make... especially on a budget.

I saw the movie last night at midnight and I actually really enjoyed it. The cast was great, in my opinion. No, it wasn't perfect, but it was never going to be. It's not all going to be what everyone pictured in their minds, but I like what they did with it. And yes, there are improvements that can be made, like the sparkling, but I think if there are sequels they will have a bigger budget and a little more room to work with stuff like visual effects. I also took my roommate who has never read the books and she enjoyed it. But yeah, personally I liked it and I'm hoping to go see it again when I get paid again.

When Bella Swan moved to Forks, Washington, she found her whole life in upheaval. The embittered teenager was forced to replace her old friends with new ones and found her everyday comforts replaced by uncertainty, doubt and fear for the future.

These days, "Twilight" fans are feeling closer to their heroine than they ever thought possible.

Following last week's dismissal and replacement of Catherine Hardwicke, this weekend began with a press release from Summit Entertainment officially appointing "New Moon" director Chris Weitz to the job. Suspicious in its omission of Taylor Lautner, the release seemed to all but confirm Twilighter whispers that Hardwicke won't be the last "Twilight" talent replaced before the sequel.

So where does the series go from here?

MTV News can confirm that 26-year-old "Scorpion King 2" actor Michael Copon [pronounced "COPE-on"] is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob Black. A representative for Copon told us that they're making a full effort to land the high-profile gig. And in a bit of 21st-century self-publicity, the actor has even recently updated his Facebook status with messages like: "Michael Copon [is] in a Twilight Zone!" and "Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!"

Copon's representative confirmed to MTV News that the Facebook page is run by the actor himself and that those are indeed his words.

Approached for comment on Lautner's omission from the "New Moon" press release, Summit confirmed that it was not a typographical error. "The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made," a representative told MTV News.

But even once Copon (or whoever else) is officially announced as the new Jacob, Weitz still has many other key casting decisions to make and an extremely brief amount of time in which to make them. With barely 12 weeks until cameras are due to begin rolling, the "Golden Compass" filmmaker needs to find faces to portray several key characters — including the peace-keeping, Italian vampires known as the Volturi.

With the buzz building for these roles, MTV News has confirmed that 27-year-old "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" heartthrob Ben Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the "Twilight" fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose "New Moon" encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together.

Where does the "Twilight" franchise go from here? At the moment, the only person who knows is Weitz himself. Stay tuned to MTV News for the very latest on Copon, Barnes and any other names yet to emerge.

--- just some news.

So I finally saw it today. I definitely liked it despite the excessive cheesiness. Robert Pattinson was adorable and Kristen Stewart made me really like Bella who I couldn't stand in the book. They had some great chemistry. I also freaking loved Jasper. The directing was god awful though. I am so glad they are changing it up in the next movie. The whole sparkling thing is just embarassing, more so than in the books. (But yeah not the director's fault). I hope they ditch the narration. I don't mind it in some movies, but it was pretty bad here. I loooooved Charlie. Great casting choice. I liked the Esme, was meh about Alice and I hated Nikki Reed as Rosalie and I was NOT a fan of the Jacob at all. Kellan was an adorable Emmett though and surprisingly I did not hate Peter Fascinelli as Carlisle. I also liked Bella's friends better in the movie than in the books.

I think some casting changes really will be a good thing, though, with the next movie and especially the change in director. There were just too many cringeworthy moments due to stylistic choices.

I saw it a like two weeks ago? I lost a bet, so I had to see it but anyways, I read the first book a long time ago and it never really caught my attention since Bella isn't really a character I enjoyed but after seeing the movie, I ended up re-reading the book because I have this thing of seeing what was different and what stayed the same. Though the movie is a lot corny than the book, I really do enjoy a lot more things than the book. Such as when Bella and Edward are in the woods and she tells him that she knows who he is rather than in the book, they have this conversation in the car. I reallllllly enjoyed the movie version rather than the book. It seemed more intimate in a sense. Also, the scene in the where James tricks Bella into going to the ballet stuido; you actually got to see the fight between the Edward and James and what the Cullens do to him, I realllly liked the faded out look they did when they kill James, it was kinda cool in a way.

The acting was blah...I wasn't all to impressed but I like movie B/E more than book B/E. Kristen did a really good job but I think Billy Burke shined the most throughout the whole film. I really got happy when he was on screen because he always brought something special to each scene. I loooove the whole pepper spray stuff, it was awesome. I think Robert did a reallllly good job, for his first lead huge role, I think he played Edward well, I was into it

I would say my favourite characters were Cullens, Charlie and James. Victoria was badass as hellllllll! I'm m glad they gave her more personality in the movie.

But through all of this, I seriously kept thinking Carlisle who actually fit his apperance in the book. Like, it seemed like an identical match compared to the rest but that's just me. lol
