What's the Last Album You Bought?
Oh the days of Limewire are in their fullest effect, but some of us still actually purchase CD's. Even if you don't, what's the latest album that you're currently digging at the moment?

Well, technically they're not even out in America yet besides a couple of EP's lying around but I'm looking forward to their official release stateside. Once you get past the first shock of discovering that the lead singer is a male, (and straight, heh) it's hard to deny that even as young as they are these guys know how to rock. Personally, I prefer their German albums to their English efforts but they're still tons better than most of the rest.
Killer Tracks: Scream, Don't Jump
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee318/skilletnburgers/The_Secret_Handshake-One_Full_Year.jpgThe Secret Handshake, One Full Year
I didn't really have much of a clue nor did I really care about this Texas Native until I had seen him live in concert. Who thought that one man can carry so many catchy tunes? If you're into Hellogoodbye or any sort of emo-pop-rock-techno then this guy is definitely for you. With a nice mix of upbeat tempos and some slow songs that are insanely perfect to drive alone to on a starry night, The Secret Handshake's major label debut is perfect.
Killer Tracks: Summer of '98, Midnight Movie
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee318/skilletnburgers/3438059-301404309.jpgSay Anything, In Defense Of The Genre
Say Anythings' follow up to ...is A Real Boy?, is everything you expect and everything you sort of... won't. A double-cd effort, for the same price as your Fall Out Boy CD you can enjoy twice the songs. I warn you though, have an open mind, since here is the work of a bi-polar rock God at his medicated finest. If Say Anything still isn't really your thing, most likely you'll still be tempted to take a listen to jam to one of the many guest starring bands on this album. From Hayley Williams (Paramore) to Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, The Almost) pretty much the entire indie rock scene is present all under one roof.
Killer Tracks: Baby Girl, I'm A Blur, The Church Channel, Spores

The last album I bought was The Moment by Framing Hanley when I saw them on tour with Evans Blue and Neurosonic. They're a great bunch of guys who play great music!
I'm the weird black sheep of the world who not only still buys CDs, but will go so far as to import them if necessary. I even won't use iTunes if I can avoid it, and when I buy something off of GoMusic.ru (hey, for less than $3 an album, I'm game), I always buy a hard copy later. :)

The last albums I bought were Nick Drake's Made to Love Magic and David Gray's Shine: The Best Of The Early Years. They're both great. I don't know if I could possibly choose favorite tracks from either of them, since I love the albums as a whole, and I recommend them to pretty much anyone.

I stocked up yesterday on my stuff for the flight back home, so here's what my friends helped me pick out to listen to on the flight back to MTL:
1. In Rainbows-Radiohead. Even though this album has been out online forever, we felt it was good enough to own in CD form, and pay $9.99 for at Future Shop
2. Trois Accords - Grand Champion International De Course. I'm from Quebec, so yeah, I do like French bands. This is one of them.
3.Linkin Park-Minutes to Midnight. We kept singing Shadow of the Day on the way to the store, so I had to buy it, nostalgia and all that.

As much as I hate buying albums over the internet, I brought A Beautiful Lie by 30 Seconds to Mars via iTunes. First album I ever brought over the internet. Feels weird. I can't admire the CD cover and drool and whatnot. That's what I get for not having any money *sighs*.
Any way, Kirsten suggested I get it since I was in such a dilemma for almost a month now trying to figure out which album to buy. I'm seriously glad I got it. Jared's voice is damn right sexy. I fall asleep with a headphone in my ear listening to this stuff man. I walk to classes listening, dinner, everywhere. Then again, I'm a music junky. I did the same thing to Paramore's Riot -- which was the last CD I brought from an actual store called WalMart :D

I love Staind *loveyes* its the only band I have more then half of their albums for real, cause they rock ^_^ hehe :D

Avenged Sevenfold have hit new heights with this album. An extreme departure from their first major release effort, this self titled disc will literally freak the shit out of you. Completely self produced, A7X proves that musicianship goes far beyond the cookie cutter genre's of today. One of my favorite records of 2007, even fans outside of Metal and A7X are sure to find at least something they'll enjoy. There isn't a genre of music that goes unnoticed in this spectacular disc.

I just bought the album today, so I haven't had time to listen to it, but if it's anything like Songs We Sing, then I'm sure it's going to be amazing. He's got a really mellow sound, given the reason he tours with Jack Johnson, and if you like ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra), then you should definitely give him a listen.

Once again, I haven't had a chance to listen to this album, but I love Nada Surf. Some of you might know them from the episodes they were featured on during season two(?) of One Tree Hill, or you may just know them because they make awesome music. Either way, I'm sure this is an album that you at least need to listen to the samples of on iTunes. Some songs by them that you definitely need to check out from them are "Always Love" and "If You Leave," but you should also check out this album, which just dropped this month.

I bought this EP a week or so ago, and I love it. The band isn't signed yet, so they're putting the album out by themselves, and it's only available on their MySpace at the moment, but it's definitely worth the money I paid for it. They've toured with a few bands (Paramore, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Ivoryline, and The Classic Crime to name a few), and they're doing some smaller venues themselves, but the EP is definitely a good first effort from a young band. Plus, the guys aren't exactly bad to look at, which definitely doesn't hurt.

The Black Swan by Story of the Year ; another fantastic album by the guys. It's got a whole lot of songs that cannot be missed, but the ones I think that should be heard are Wake Up, The Antidote & We're Not Gonna Make It. What makes this album pretty awesome is the fact that they're not talking failed relationships or heartbreak, they're talking about life and the world and everything that comes with it. Which is different from most other bands putting out albums now.
Pretty Odd by Panic! At The Disco ; to be honest, I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but so far, I'm loving it. Nine In The Afternoon is definitely a favorite. And I think I might like this album better than their first one. :p

OK, so I'm not ashamed to admit that I've been a JMac fan for years. As much as I loved him, I never really pictured him to be accepted as a legitimate artist, but low and behold this album might leave hope for him yet. It's extremely different from anything from him that you may have heard of, and at first you might just hate it automatically. But push aside the thoughts of a former pop sensation trying to woo the world with sexuality and maturity, and just listen to the album for what it is. Truly, I wasn't disappointed by this album and was actually quite pleased with the final outcome. So, give the guy a chance. After all, we wouldn't have Bleeding Love without him, hah.

http://i25.tinypic.com/ea00hz.jpgSpring Awakening, A New Musical
This musical is amazing, let me just clear that up! It's set in Germany and this play is about teenagers learning and experiencing the life of sex. Teenage boys who wanna screw hot chicks and girls who are learning and wanting to become sexy. The music plays such a big role because though it's set back a few years, the songs are modern, so you don't feel out of place. It's really rock and popish but you find yourself singing to them. The vocals are amazing and it doesn't really fit to typical musicals making it something, I think even a person who isn't into musicals enjoy it. Duncan Sheik is one amazing composer and writer!

Just bought this. Imported it, actually. I should be getting it in about 2-3 weeks. This band is gonna get a lot of comparisons to Tokio Hotel because they're both German bands inspired by Japanese visual kei bands. However, something about Tokio Hotel rubs me the wrong way. Cinema Bizarre, on the other hand? Oh, I've fallen in love. And CB even made it to the final German round of Eurovision 2008 with their song "Forever or Never." Good job, boys! It should be noted that, while I said they will be getting compared to Tokio Hotel, the two bands actually sound nothing alike. But this album is impossible to locate in the US. If you decide to buy it, trust me when I say that eBay is your best friend. This band was more than worth the $14 I spent to get it.

You're like my best friend right now! I love Cinema Bizarre! I had to pay like 20 bucks to get mine off of Amazon, but it's so worth it and it isn't so bad compared to the 40 something bucks that Tokio Hotel's German albums are to import. But yeah, they get a lot of comparisons because of Bill and Strify and their appearances but like you said they don't sound anything alike. TH is just straight up rock and Cinema Bizarre veer off into a whole different direction. But I'm hoping that record companies think the same and if TH is successful over here, then they might try to bring them over as well.

She & Him; Volume One -- Major love, totally 60s sounding. Sounds like the Carpenters-ish and I love Zooey's voice.
Scarlett Johansson; Anywhere I Lay My Head -- Did not necessarily buy this, Jaci sent it to me. All but one are covers of Tom Waits, it's actually a decent album. I didn't have much faith in it to be honest because I never heard her sing and thought it was simply a lark. But her style is something I like, raspy voice and all, plus David Bowie does back up vocals on some of the tracks. I like the eerie sounds, I want to hear the originals now.
Dresden Dolls; No, Virginia... - Anyone can tell you how much I absolutely adore the Dresden Dolls ever since I heard "Sex Changes" from Yes, Virginia... (the first track I ever heard from them) and this album is no exception. I found this album amusing, gritty and honest as usual. I expected there to be more unreleased/newer songs so that's my only gripe since I heard a few of them through the net, one track I already had since it was on a different album. They need to release a live album with their covers of songs too damn it. u.u Anyways, I have been listening to the CD obsessively since I got the CD on Tuesday. :)

Sweet, another fan! So far it looks like Tokio Hotel is doing pretty well here, considering the massive amounts of people I saw wearing their merch at Bamboozle earlier this month. I don't like TH much, though (and I couldn't tell you why if my life depended on it o.0).

I've been listening to this album on their MySpace, but I bought the deluxe edition today, and the acoustic tracks are amazing, too. Angel dearest, listen to the original songs instead.
This album just pissed me off, because to me it's just kind of the typical of an actress wanting to be a singer as well. Now I have all the respect in the world for Scarlett as an actor, and she should stick to it. I was not impressed by her voice at all, and on most of the tracks it drowns in the instruments.
And finally, I would put it past only very few artists to make a cover of a Tom Waits song, because that man is just five million kinds of genius and brilliant. Scarlett just can't pull it of.
So yeah, listen to the original tracks I beg of you.
Last album I bought was Nick Cave - Murder Ballads, absolutely fabulous album, contains some of the man's best songs in my opinion. Stagger Lee, Where the Wild Roses Grow, Song of Joy, Henry Lee, and yeah, the list goes on. Very, very, very dark album though, not one to listen to if you're sad, because then depression just lurks right around the corner.

http://i35.tinypic.com/2ciel43.pngRammstein - Völkerball
It's a DVD/live set from Rammstein of their greatest hits. I have all their other CD's and this was just a little gift for myself since I'll hardly get chance to see them live. I personally am in love with the band, though some people are scared of them. It's his voice, it does sound like the devil's coming to get you at first listen but there's much much worse and they have some other good qualities into their music besides loud music.
Favourite Tracks: Ich Will, Reise Reise, Du Hast, Feuer Frei!
http://i35.tinypic.com/107v38l.pngThe Feeling - Twelve Stops and Then Home
I've loved The Feeling for forever, but I've just now gotten up the nerve to actually buy their CD for my car. (I'm trying to ween myself from my Limewire addiction.) His voice is just completely sweet to me, and some people don't like British accents but his I'm in love with. My favorite song is 'Never Be Lonely' on the CD just because of the feel the song gives off. The content isn't necesarily perky, but you can't help but just bop along to this and the rest of the CD.
Favourite Tracks: Never Be Lonely, Strange, Anyone
http://i38.tinypic.com/15ee8ow.pngDoes It Offend You, Yeah?- You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into
I saw the band before I heard them a little while ago, and to be honest I was pissed. The lead singer stole my hat style, haha. Besides that fact, once I actually listened to them, I enjoyed everything from start to finish. They're not just your typical electro band, their songs have totally different textures and elements but nothing too distracting to where it isn't cohesive. I personally think they're gonna be the front of a good revolution. I only wish I could see them this weekend.

Big Ones - Aerosmith
I'm a huuuuge Aerosmith fan, although this is the first time I've actually purchased their music (oops!). It's basically their greatest hits, as the title implies. It's full of awesome hits by the band, but I was shocked to see "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" didn't make it on there- but I have it anyway!
The Confessions Tour - Madonna
I never really paid much attention to Madonna until "4 Minutes" became my #1 obession for like, a month haha. I didn't realise what I was missing! As soon as I heard "4 Minutes", I went out and bought Hard Candy (LOVE it btw). I adored it, so I went and looked for Confessions, but all I found was the tour edition. I'm not complaining- it includes a DVD of her performing in London and it's great!

Kings of Leon have been around for a while, and you most likely remember them from their songs 'Four Kicks'. Well, skip an album past that and you end up with Only By The Night something that I'm already dubbing my favorite album of the year. Southern rock has never been more infectious, bringing it back to the forefront with taste leaving the hillbilly hymns behind. Not that I see anything wrong with that...
Favorite Tracks: Be Somebody, Crawl, Revelry

I take no credit for finding this one. Fuse played them sometime ago, and the video hooked me so much that I had to go around searching for more. Thankfully, they're practically virgins to mainstream so they still had actual talent to begin with. Personally, I love the album and it's great for what it is but at times I can find myself forgetting them entirely. With progress, I think they can be something of importance later down the road, but for now not so bad of a start.

I've had this downloaded on my computer for a while, but I finally went out and bought a hard copy with the DVD.
Black Light Burns, as if you haven't already gotten sick of my incessant rambling, is the new band from the mind of Wes Borland [Limp Bizkit, Big Dumb Face, Eat the Day, The Damning Well]. I find their music hard to describe. Ambient, industrial, metal...all of the above. Also, Anvil Pants is quite possibly the funniest tour video I've ever seen. Or possibly the funniest thing ever, I'm not entirely sure. :D

http://i36.tinypic.com/jgozyb.jpgDeath in the Park - Death In the Park (EP)
This is the first EP from the guys of Death in the Park. Lead vocs are done by Andy Jackson, formerly of Hot Rod Circuit. You've got Hot Rod Circuit's Joe Ballaro on bass, and Paramore crew members Ronnie Gardner and Aaron Holmes on guitars and drums respectively. For a first EP, it's pretty solid. They're still a young band, so I expect them to mature quite a bit by the time their LP is released in the spring of 2009. Anyway, they're on MySpace, so you can check them out there, and their EP is available on iTunes for less than $5. Can't beat that. They're currently doing some shows opening for Saosin, so check them out if you can.
Favorite Tracks: Fallen; Pitifully Exposed
http://i36.tinypic.com/2lk61zk.jpgTom Gäbel- Heart Burns
This solo EP from Against Me!'s Tom Gäbel is pretty much everything you would expect from him. He's political and opinionated, and he's not scared to share those opinions in his music. For the most part, the album is simple and unpolished and showcases Gäbel's edgy, raw voice. Some of the songs have a New Wave feel, but for the most part, it's just Tom Gäbel shining through.
Favorite Tracks: Anna Is a Stool Pigeon; 100 Years of War

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s72/me_miss_strange/lights.gifLights - Lights (EP) A newcomer to the Canadian music scene, Lights is pretty much what you'd expect out of an Indie/New Wave artist. Quirky beats with good vocals make this an EP that I'd definitely recommend checking out. If nothing else, you'll want to check out her video for 'Drive My Soul', just cause it's so cheesy funny,
Favorite Tracks: Drive my Soul; February Air
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s72/me_miss_strange/heyocean.jpgHey Ocean- It's Easier to be Somebody Else These kids aren't newcomers to the streets. In fact, this is their Sophomore album, which definitely trumps their first, at least in my opinion. They have a distinctly retro vibe but they add a modern twist to it, making their music fun and easy to listen to.

I brought and downloaded albums in the past month.
I actually brought Shaggy's Hot Shot from iTunes. These tunes bring me back to the days of being in Jamaica. I love how certain music uproots the heritage in me.
Fav Tracks: Hey Love, Luv Me, Luv Me, Not Fair, & Keep'N It Real
I downloaded Kerli's Love Is Dead. I like her bizarre sound and she does have a few really great songs. Her voice doesn't sound like anyone else to me (at least none I've come across). I don't think she's a great singer, but the way she presents her vocals is amazing nonetheless.
Fav Tracks: Butterfly Cry, Bulletproof, Love Is Dead, Beautiful Day, Walking on Air, & Fragile
Downloaded Katy Perry's One of the Boys. I'll admit, I am surprised her album is this good. I have yet to come across an artist whose tracks I allllll loved at first listen. Most albums take me about 3 or more listens to like most of the tracks. She did pretty great for her first album.
Fav Tracks: Lost, I'm Still Breathing, Mannequin, I Think I'm Ready, Hot 'N Cold, & Fingerprints....hard to pick favs here
Downloaded Adele's 19. Her voice touches my soul. I don't think all her tracks are that great, but she does have some great ones.
Fav Tracks: Hometown Glory, Cold Shoulder, & Chasing Pavements
I just brought Hinder's Take It to the Limit. I loved their last album and admittedly I was trying to download rather than buy (poor college student here). And then I wasn't getting them so I was going to buy it on iTunes, buttttt, I wouldn't get the bonus tracks so I went to Walmart about 2 hours ago and got it. I heard part of Running in the Rain so I knew I had to just buy it and get it over and done with. Early Christmas present?
Fav Tracks: Running in the Rain, The Best Is Yet to Come, Far From Home, & Without You... (just got the album so kinda hard to choose...)

http://i37.tinypic.com/6oj5ld.pngBritney Spears- Circus
Considering Britney Spears has been through a lot of crazy stuff these past few years, Circus seems to be the perfect name for this album. This album has a lot of catchy beats, lyrics and you find yourself wanting to dance to basically all of them. These songs are basically Britney Spears songs, really nothing special but you always end up wanting to put them on repeat. Some songs, you just easily end up laughing at but this album is a true comeback in the end. It just proves she isn't going anywhere soon!
Favorite Tracks: Circus, Unusual You, Mannequin

Spike Lee's Bamboozled came out...I think about seven years ago. And I saw it for the first time 2 years ago. But as of late, this movie's become a pretty intense obsession for me. I think it's right up there with Do the Right Thing. Just a stroke of genius. And one of the things about it that really made it 'stick' with me was the music in it. The tracks do an EXCELLENT job of capturing the emotions that run throughout the movie; anger, sadness, cynicism, etc. Some of the tracks stuck with me just as much as the movie did. So I ordered it off Amazon. Much cheaper than the store:) I hope it comes in soon.
Favorite Tracks: Misrepresented People, Some Years Ago, Shadowlands

It's been three years since the Rejects have come out with anything new, so when When The World Comes Down was put up on their myspace, I was unsure of it and without much surprise The Rejects have manage to stick to their addictive tones and easy to rock out beats, once again, not disappointing their fans. The album varies from awesome rock out and have a good time sound, to songs that make you stop and listen and make you really think.
Favorite Tracks: Gives You Hell, Mona Lisa (When The World Comes Down), Damn Girl, Another Heart Calls.
