So I have been anticipating this movie ever since the previews for the "Untitled JJ Abrams Movie" came out in July. Other than the fact that I got really dizzy and nauseous from the combination of sitting up front (theater was nearly packed :( ) and the camera movements, I thought it was a really good movie.
Was I the only one that noticed something hitting the ocean at the end when Rob and Beth were on the ferris wheel? At first, I thought that that was how the monster ended up on Earth.. from space or something. But then I remembered that JJ Abrams mentioned that it's not an alien?
And then I thought that all the deaths were pretty unexpected. Most especially Marlena's.
Hud was a pretty interesting character, too, haha. I thought he was pretty amusing.
I'm kind of hoping for a sequel because there's so many questions still unanswered. I think that's what JJ Abrams is always trying to do (ex. LOST). When the movie ended, people booed because they didn't like how it ended, but personally, I thought it ended pretty well.
What'd you guys think? Has anyone else gone out to see it?

I've been pretty damn excited about this movie so I deeefinitely had to see it tonight. I really loved it, aside from the fact that I got totally nauseous also... and I wasn't even sitting in the front. I think that might deter me from seeing the movie a second time cause I felt really lousy as a result of the camera work.
Other than that though, it was aweeeesome.
The only death that surprised me was Jason... though I still hold out hope he did not die and in my mind he is alive... juuuust cause it makes me happy to think so :). I figured he'd die, I was just hoping it'd be later on.
Marlena, I knew the moment she got bitten that something would happen, I was just waiting for it. Preeeetty nasty that she exploded though.
I didn't notice that myself with the thing dropping into the water, but I know a lot of other people did from reading the imdb forums so you definitely are not the only one. I really wish I had noticed. I think I was feeling so queasy by then I just wanted the movie to end.
I didn't think it would end well, after all it said the video footage was found in central park, so I figured something would happen to knock off the rest of the characters when it showed them there. I really loved how it ended. I don't think it would have made sense if everything was explained because the whole point was it was some home video that they found. If it had all this info about everything, it just wouldn't have worked.
I also thought the film style was cool and an awesome idea... I just wish I didn't get sick from that type of camera movement. Maybe if I took dramamine before watching it...
I was really glad that Lily might have made it out. She was my favorite.
I'm really hoping for a sequel as well. *cough* preferably something that magically shows Jason alive and his events about what happened after he managed to not die when that giant tentacle came down :newangel: . Okay, so I adore Mike Vogel and I cannot help myself >.<.
No matter what, I'd love a sequel, but I wasn't unhappy with how the movie ended. There has in fact already been talk about there being another, especially since the movie was apparently relatively cheap to make and they think it will make a lot of money. So hooopefully we will get one...

I reeeally think they need to give some sort of warning beforehand about getting motion sickness while watching.
Aw, I love Mike Vogel, too! And was also hoping that he had miraculously survived what happened on the bridge and caught up with the rest of them, lol. I didn't think it'd happen so early on. And I expected Marlena to end up dying, but I was nooot expecting her exploding like she did. I thought that she had exploded from the bite, but my sister said that it was the military people that did something to her behind the tent?
I really wanna watch it again just to catch any more clues or hidden stuff... I just don't wanna handle the dizzyness again, lol.

Oh I know. I mean I thought it might make me a little sick because I knew how it was filmed, but I really didn't expect to feel thaaaat sick.
My hope was that since Lily survived there might be a chance of a reunion with them later cause they were adorable.
And yeah it did happen pretty abruptly. I'm still not entirely sure what happened... but I am fairly certain she did explode... just because of some screencaps that have been posted of her swelling up... or that's what it seems to be. Plus, they showed that person who had been bitten and his stomach was basically gone... I think that might be an implication that his (or was it a woman) stomach had exploded since it was basically that gaping hole. I can't think of a reason why the military would actually kill her.
Yeah I reaaally do to... I just don't know if I could take it either. I really am considering trying non-drowsy dramamine though. Which is really just sad since it'd be to see a movie >.<. Oh and also the 1-18-08.com site has some new pictures up and one looks to be the attack on the monster and shows it dead. Or what miiight be the monster. I think at the very least we do know that humankind does survive for there to be government
documentation about it however many years later.

I was kind of thinking that the military guys had to kill her to prevent maybe a parasite/spider-like thing or something growing in her? It could have been what happened to the guy with the hole in his stomach. But it could also be that she just exploded from the bite and poisoned her whole body.
I checked out the pictures on the website, too. I was reading some comments on ONTD and some people said it just looked like some sort of whale... but I definitely think it's the monster... or parts of it.
And yeeeah, if I do go see it in theaters again, I'll definitely take something beforehand and/or sit alllll the way in the back.

Yeah they could have, though the way the blood sprayed back against the tent, it seemed odd to me, like I don't know if they would have shot that way, but I am probably overanalyzing. It would definitely be nasty if little creatures were growing inside of her after the bite though. Iiiick.
I heard that too about the whale. I agree, it's probably part of the monster... it just seems odd that they'd include a dead whale. I mean, I guess it would emphasize that it's some huge killer monster, but since it was after the movie came out I believe, I would be surprised to find it wasn't the monster.
The more I think about it, the more I want to see it again which definitely means dramamine/moving waaaaaaaay to the back measures for me.

Those spoiler tags are really tempting. But I refuse to slide over them.
I wasn't that excited for it when it was unnamed and stuff, until I found out Mike was going to be in it. Then I still wasn't that excited until like last week, because I hadn't seen a preview for it until last week.
Maybe I will go see it this week. I'm kind of glad I know that it could make me nauseous, so I can hopefully prepare myself.

"As for Vogel's future prospects, he has a key role in the new Jack Black film "Ye Olde Times," set to shoot this spring, and although he's still looking for that breakout role, he's keeping a close eye on a possible "Cloverfield" sequel.
"They definitely left it obscure enough that you don't quite know," Vogel says of his character's fate. "There are really only two people you can tell really bit the farm and the rest of us are just kind of there." - Source (http://movies.msn.com/movies/hitlist/01-18-08_2?GT1=7701)
Totally made my day...
And yeah I suggest you take dramamine an hour beforehand because apparently that helps a lot.

I saw it today, and to be honest, I wasn't as impressed as I thought I was going to be. I think the main problem I had with it was that we never found out exactly what the creature was or where it came from. I think that it just needed a bit more explanation; like I am Legend for example. At the very end, a military scientist should have come on the camera with an explanation of the whole thing. Like many of us, I had hoped that Mike's character had miraculously survived- his death was a little too abrupt for me....Plus he was just too hot to be gone so soon. Granted, the videotaping angle of the film was ingenious. I really did feel like I was there. The motion sickness didn't get to me actually, I just had trouble figuring out what I was looking at for some moments. I found it ironic that Hunter was the one who filming and he still didn't get to live. We never do find out what happened to Lily, do we? I thought it was really gallant of Rob to risk so much to go after Beth- of course he could have just felt guilty about saying that low blow as she left his party, but the sentiment was still there. Ok, guess I'm done with spoilers.
Not bad, not great, but we all have to judge for ourselves, I guess.

I disagree. I think if a scientist had suddenly come onto camera it just wouldn't have made sense. Especially since it was a civilian camera. It would not have worked as it did if we had been given the full explanation about what happened because these were just a bunch of kids in the city who weren't military or government and who were just trying to survive/find their friend. They weren't heroes trying to bring down the monster, they were just trying to live.
Like that article said, the only deaths we really know for certain are two... Marlena and Hudson. I knew from the beginning it wasn't going to end well though because this was footage that they found on site in central park. You could still at least assume for the govenment to have found it and have this documentation that the monster probably died... or at the very least the incident ended. It didn't bring about the end of the world.
I really liked that it left so much open and ambiguous and it does leave the possibility for people like Jason to come back in a sequel, somehow show his side because the camera didn't absolutely show he died. And Lily could definitely have gotten out. Even Rob and Beth could have survived, especially witht Rob speaking after the credits rolled saying "Help us" or "It's still alive."
It just wouldn't make sense if it did reveal more. And it actually doesn't bother me at all that we don't know where the monster came from. At least not from this context, again because they were a bunch of kids, Hudson was just running around with the camera recording as they went along so a fuller explanation would have ruined the effect. And there'd be no reason for some scientist to use that film and camera to give any explanations they might have. They'd probably put it on something else.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. I liked how much was left open. It didn't give it a Hollywood ending and I am extreeeemely glad it didn't suddenly break form in the end. A lot of people seem to hate it for the open ending though. *shrugs* I just think it leaves more to think about.

I just saw the movie today and thought it was amazing. The cast and the acting was great, and I liked the filming of it. I didn't get sick, I don't know why I didn't but maybe because I knew beforehand that it was shaky, but my boyfriend said it made him kind of sick.
I was so upset Mike's character Jason died so early. I kept waiting for him to come back later in the movie, like even when Rob's mom called I was like oh maybe she will say she talked to Jason (I was optimistic lol) but I was wrong. Then after that I knew Jason wasn't returning.
Hud was a good character, I found his comments humorous, I liked that they made him amusing because it lightened the mood a little bit.
Okay MAYBE when Marlena died they didn't shoot her, but she exploded and they shot a creature coming out of her? At first I thought she just exploded but some of the pictures i've seen since appear otherwise.
Rob was cute, I thought they did great at casting someone who could pass as Mike's brother, like some of the shots I was like "Jason? Or Rob?". I also think they handled the Beth/Rob thing better than other movies would. I mean it could have easily gone cheesy but they did well at making it seem realistic.
I love that we don't know what the creature is or where it came from, because thats not what the movie is about, it's about a monster attacking New York, not the origins of the monster.
I also like that the ending wasn't that happy, because even if Beth and Rob survived (I doubt they did) it's still a sad ending, I mean they lost friends, and have the possibility of Lily being dead...

So today I went and got some non-drowsy dramamine and my sister and I saw it again. Soooo worth it.
This time I went in thinking about what Mike Vogel said in that interview and he's right, you only really know for certain about two deaths, Marlena and Hudson. I was watching very carefully and you definitely don't see Jason die absolutely. There is definitely the possibility that he survived.
This time I could actually focus and Icould really see Marlena's body expand and just pop after they dragged her into quarantine. It was totally nasty. I don't think a creature came out of her, I think blood is just unsanitary to go flying about and so if people knew she was going to explode, they'd rather she did it in a quarantined area. Afterall, if some creature popped out of her stomach, they'd have shot it and you'd hear gun shots... which I don't think we did. Plus, it would have been a little much to suspend disbelieve that a spider-ish bite would lay eggs that would hatch and grow that fast anyway. I think it was just some sort of extreme swelling reaction, though, I could be wrong.
I agree, they did an awesome job casting Rob & Jason as brothers. I remember in the trailer I couldn't tell which was which until very late on.
I like the ending too, there is the possibility of everyone being dead... ooor Rob, Beth, Lily, and Jason could have died. Hudson and Marlena are the only ones that are absolutely clear.
I overheard more people bitching as they walked out of the movie at the end tonight. I really don't get what people are whining about saying the movie has no plot. It does. Monster destroys city, character undertakes journey to save someone he loves. Same plot as in a lot of other movies, people just don't like that it is different and that the camera movements make them sick.
I am still inclined to think that people overall either really love the movie or absolutely despise it.
I reaaaaaaaaaally hope they make a sequel.

I don't really want a sequel. I'm afraid if they make a sequel it could ruin the movie. But i'll see it anyway if they make one.
I hated that there were no kids or animals. I only remember seeing a horse pulling an empty carriage, other than that the film had no animals or kids. It was just weird to me.
I'm pretty sure Rob and Beth are dead, but I don't know about Lily or Jason, though I am guessing he is dead because he was like right where the bridge was smashed. Lily could be dead if the monster hit her helicopter.
Was anyone else a little sad when at the end Beth says something about how today was a good day, when she and Rob were together at Cony Island?
It was kind of funny because my boyfriend was like why don't they just stay where they were, meaning after they were attacked, why didn't they stay at the area with the drink machine, i was like Marlena's badly hurt, she could get an infection or something. Then when she said she was dizzy I was like crap -_- because I knew something was going to happen, though i just thought she'd just collapse and die, not pop like a tic.

I don't think it really affects this one and
if Mike Vogel was right in that interview, given that there is the possibility that a bunch of them survived, it would be cool to at least see one run across the screen so you know they survived.
It might follow different people anyway because other people were filming that night, such as the man on the bridge that Hudson catches in his camera who is filming a tanker and then that person turns with the camera to look at Hudson. Apparently, if they do another it could follow some other group and could have a bit of crossover, just with that. I dunno, I'm happy at any prospect of seeing Jason/Mike Vogel alive and maaaybe him finding Lily.
We'll see I guess. They already made back their money, though. That opening weekend was a record breaker so I think there is a good possibility for them to do something with it.

Umm...the movie totally blew my mind! I finally got to see it, which was incredibly difficult. But, I stepped out of the cinema totally excited and I would watch it again. I loved all the characters and I'm totally speechless because I don't know what else to say. I don't think there should be a sequel, it might ruin the whole point of the movie. Even though I would watch it.........*stops talking*...But it was good and I loved every minute of it.

It was a total accident we ended up going to see this film. But it was good. Not great. I couldn't relate to the charaters at all. I liked Marlena, but I like Lizzy Caplin. And the brothers were hot. But Beth annoyed me, so i just couldn't feel sorry for her or anything like that. As did Lily, although I as beginning to like her more later. So maybe that was why it wasn't great for me, I just couldn't feel liked I cared what happened to the characters.
The best bits I felt were
When they were in the tunnel and they were attacked by the little buggers. I was scared at that point. Possibly the only time. It was cool and exciting[.
Shoots of the monster were awesome. Like it was said before, it was good that it didn't go into details about the origins of the monster. When your in a situation like that, it's not your biggest concern. It's more like Let's get away from that thing. But it looked geniunely terrifying and it was pretty awesome. When it attacked the helicopter when they all thought it was dead, that was pretty rad.
When the bridge collapsed. I was upset about Jason, because I liked him as he seemed like a real person. It was still awesome all the same. To see a sequel that has him and the rest of the people from the bridge on it would be great. I would so go see that on purpose.
The part where Marlena died. Despite being the only other character minus Jason that I could relate with, the way she went out was good. It shocked me. They shot her! It was unexpected, as I thought she would die another way due to her injuries. But it showed in times of emergency like that then one life can't matter. It's the greater population that does.
But by the end, shaky cam was making the chicken and ice cream toss in my stomach, despite all of that. I went with two other people. One liked it. One didn't. So maybe it is just one of those films you love or hate.

Same Anna, i'll be complaining about a sequel all the way into the theatre as I sit down to watch it! lol
I agree with you Jagz some parts. Beth and Rob bothered me the second time I watched it, I realized how bratty they were.
Like, If I were Rob there's a chance I wouldn't have gone back to save Beth. Maybe i'm just a jerk though.
Hud and Marlena were the most relatable people, and the more I thought about how Jason died it made me mad, I was like why does Rob who pushed the love of his life away get to go back and save her/die with her (if they did die), but Lily and Jason die apart? (if they did in fact die).
But I still love the movie.
